What is a CCJ (County Court Judgment)?
A county court judgment or better known by the abbreviated term CCJ is a type of debt that is being
collected due to a county court judgment. This is a process carried out when someone is owed
money. Filing one of these will then take your case to the courts where they will decide if there is a
debt to be paid.
If the courts agree a CCJ is then issued and a payment plan confirmed.
If you pay the CCJ within 30 days, then this will have no affect on your credit score. It is only when
the debt is ignored, or the agreed payment plan is broken that more issues start to occur. This is
most notably when looking to take out a large loan such as a mortgage.
The country court judgment is only available in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. While this
excludes Scotland, we have numerous customers now who have chosen to relocate to Scotland but
that does not mean the CCJ just disappears.
Can I Get A Mortgage with a CCJ?
The simple answer is Yes, with the right expert advice you can certainly get a mortgage with a CCJ.
The best way to find out exactly how Lothian Mortgage Services can help you land your dream

How long does a County Court Judgment remain on my credit score?
A County court judgment will remain on your credit record for 6 years. It’s a common misconception
that people must wait the full time before applying and being accepted for a mortgage. This is due to
people often being rejected first time by high street banks. With the right advice and guidance, you

Please note that if a CCJ is paid within 30 days this will in no way effect your credit score should
